I originally had my old windows 10 license on connected to my microsoft account. However when attempting to reenable it via the troubleshooter it just doesn't allow it. So I just decided to not fuss with that and buy a product key for windows 10 home edition, as it was the cheapest option. Got the key and attempted to activate via the security settings and was told my key is not valid or unrecognized.

Turns out my windows 10 from my previous rig was windows 10 pro. So I believe this is causing an issue regarding activating the key I bought, as it's 2 different products. So I'm looking for an answer as to what I can do to try resolving this issue so I can have a genuine windows license again. Sidenote: I was given a download link to microsofts media creator; and while attempting that it defaulted to creating a windows 10 pro iso for install. Looking for any help possible!

For an OEM license, the license dies as soon as Motherboard dies. So essentially it is non-transferable. If that is the case you need to get a new license. However, this is not same for retail licenses i. That does carry transfer rights. If that is the case, please see the below steps: Not applicable to you What you need to do is to grab the key using any Software like Showkey Plus, uninstall that key from older PC and use it on another computer.

You need to perform a clean install if you want to activate a Windows 10 Home key. You won't be able to convert Pro to Home. Go to a working computer, download, create a bootable copy, then perform a clean install. Then when you boot the media you should be able to choose Home version per your Product Key. If you insert the Product Key during install it should help assure it. But that should not prevent you from getting a menu for Home. I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes.

I will keep working with you until it's resolved. I used the media creation tool to try creating an iso file via USB. I unchecked the recommended settings box and was only given the default "windows 10" setting, rather than having an option. After setting it and loading; it's defaulting to install the windows 10 pro version.

In reply to Killer 's post on February 10, Did you insert the Home Product Key before install? This should have directed Home version to install. Otherwise it would check for the Digital License version. I was never prompted to insert my key during creation of the usb loader part of the media creation tool.

I haven't tried actually booting it via the bios screen if that would make a difference. I assumed since it was showing as the pro version still in my iso file that it would be a waste of time to try booting it up and reinstalling.

Unless that's what I'm supposed to do. This site in other languages x.
